Renovation Sanitary Facilities
In 2005, the current vocational school (opened in 2002) on the campus in Uganda was expanded with a secondary school, named Namugongo Secondary Vocational School (NSVS). Over the years dormitories and toilets were built for the students. 550 students (boys/girls ratio is 50/50) attend our secondary school. As usual in Uganda, these students sleep on the school's campus. We have both girls and boys dorms.
The sanitary facilities in the boys' dormitories were seriously outdated and no longer met the requirements. When these were built, more than 15 years ago, there were 150 students using them. This number has now risen to 275 students. This called for urgent adjustments and innovations.
The project
What exactly has been done?
All 30 toilets and showers have been completely renovated. The walls were stripped, then re-tiled. New plastic doors and frames were installed. Plumbing and piping have been replaced, ventilation is being expanded and a number of transparent roof plates have been installed for more daylight. Furthermore, the sewage system was adapted and an extra septic tank was made.
Result
We are extremely grateful that we were able to carry out the renovation of these sanitary facilities. The toilets and showers can now last for years!
